Social Roulette

That should be the second name for Facebook. Avid users put themselves on the line everytime they update their status. Especially when their status update[s] takes issue with subject[s] in which their hearts take passionate tugs.

Relational individuals should most likely think twice before opening an account. They are more likely to be counting the number of friends they collect. Their hearts sink when a "friend" takes issues with their verbalized passion and goes so far as to take them off their list. OUCH. My year long developed opinion of severing action is that not everyone can handle their own personal differences of opinion with others. If they could, they wouldn't perceive "opinionated" posts as a personal attack so intolerable. Such has been my experience as I've made the significant choice to air personal standings on varying issues. Grant it, in doing so, the choice to make myself vulnerable to the judging social panel has also been made. The strongly relational heart sinks very low when an apparent cyber severing takes place. It's very personal for the severing shows the obvious sign[s] of just how conditional the relationship really is. How human. How painful.

In one severing, deliberately cutting statements were made. While I was accused of being an egotistical fanatic in my viewpoint lacking compassion for others, I couldn't help but make note of the obvious...that the "opponent" didn't exactly keep herself above approach. While I typed out my love towards her, she had no ability to reciprocate. The only reply to that was "I don't doubt you love me". It was important that I be informed of my lacking talents as a mother and human being. But oh, don't worry, "I will stay in touch through your husband because I care about your kids".  Even more cutting was the "get a proper education, it'd be a beautiful thing for you children".  So, no matter what my opinion, no matter the hundreds of hours poured into scientific and medical literature, regardless of the fact that she put herself in a position for questioning and debate/discussion by making her post on facebook, and the fact that [woe is me] I have feelings to... this was her obnoxious way of telling me the lack of "proper education" trumps any level of my intelligence and any social rights on the subject.  It's not certified so I have no room to talk.

Where was her compassion?  Where was her heart?  None the less, she couldn't see beyond her own pride  and grief over her children's medical circumstances to reasonably and intelligently accept my words at face value.  It would've hurt her inflamed ego far too much to consider that maybe...just maybe I wasn't blaming her for her circumstances.  Maybe....just maybe her chosen method of prevention didn't work?

Friday

Yes.....

I temporarily deactivated my facebook account. Taking a break from so much humanity of which I most certainly am a guilty party.

Facebook Bantering

Facebook has become popular at nearly lightening speed. In April the user numbers were tallied up to two million. It's August and the numbers have sky rocketed to 250 million......

I could be completely wrong, but most people that open a facebook account have the first intention of checking out who all they can reconnect with from differenct life chapters. The hungry eyes and fingers search anxiously adding new names and faces that fortunately recognize them. For every name added to the friendlist there is yet another listed opportunity to find so many more. The cyber social market increases in the spider affect for every new FB friend.

As the weeks and months continue into this new addiction, bantering of different religious and political views begin. News events [i.e. Michael Jackson's death] spread faster than wild fire...accompanied with varying views of who the man everyone thought he really was or was not.

The 2008 election was the first of Obama supporters and anti-Obama bantering. The freedom of speech and opinion quickly diminish when out-of-control slinging takes place. We revisited the political bantering when it was announced that Obama would be speaking to students via the television.

Facebook is basically mass email on steroids with the average user having 120 friends on the site, more than 5 billion minutes spent on Facebook each day (worldwide), more than 30 million users updating their statuses at least once each day, some are ridiculously addicted to updating their status every hour of their waking moment to every several minutes simly because they can't fid anything else productive to spend their time in; more than 8 million users becoming fans of pages each day, that number will grow as more subjects and objects are created for passionation facebookers to be fans of; more than 1 billion photos uploaded to the site each month, many like to "impress" as their photos turn into brag albums of their spouse and children [yes, I'm delightfully guilty]; more than 10 million videos uploaded each month, it's amazing to find how many like to play with video edicting software and are actually really good at it; more than 1 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photos, etc.) shared each week, typically accompanied with varying comments or pleas of involvement; more than 2.5 million events created each month; more than 45 million active user groups exist on the Facebook.

It's also mobile communication on steriods with more than 65 million active users currently accessing Facebook through their mobile devices [Yes, I'm one of the "lucky" million]. People that use Facebook on their mobile devices are almost 50% more active on Facebook than non-mobile users. That's so easy to do as Fbookers galavant running errands, visit people, take vacations...etc. All such things are viewed as required status update data. Guess what Fbookers? ..... There are more than 180 mobile operators in 60 countries working to deploy and promote Facebook mobile products!!!

There are very FEW that will deactivate their account because they've grown tired of the cyber social gathering...on steriods. They're probably the smartest and wisest for not allowing themselves to be facebook distracted from the reality within their own corner of the world. Their minds can live in peace away from the over social stimulation that most Facebook users are too addicted to let go. To those of you that have.....you truly deserve a reward....

Verbiage mishaps

No one likes to be misread. Especially, through typed verbiage in a cyber social "room". A cyber friend misread my responses to their very heart melting compliment. To them I was being the arrogant anti-aging snoot. Hopefully, he figures me out to be different. Maybe one would [and could] easily label my emotional teary eyed reaction as a bit over board. Ever felt helpless when you're misread but can't seem to say or do anything to show your humility?

Sorry, Love. I truly am.
