if you only knew the millions of things I want to say....but don't

Talent Night at Faith Academy

Faith Academy courtyard under the theatre....I remember the days of waiting in front of the gym, with the rest of the anxious crowd, before the doors were opened up for Talent night. Then I remember sweating it out in the gym, taking the program to fan off the heat. Ha...we all did that. Remember?? Those were great days. Days I miss. But my kids (and myself) enjoyed the night's cool breeze romanticized by such incredible ambience. The appreciation is there....but on a different level. It's home. But such an evolved home. None the less, the kids are experiencing how much more serious and enjoyable extra curricular activities here are. And it's good to see that Faith Academy talent night is still worth more than the price of the tickets. Too bad there is no technology that could capture the evening well enough to do it justice. But then again, would such great memories be as sentimenally valuable as those already locked away in the secret chambers of the MK heart or would it become another over played and/or under appreciated memory clip? It was definitely another night to be added to the treasure chest of this-is-incredible-living. It's a good thing. A very good thing. As missionaries that've uprooted our kids from the comforts of the west, it's nights like these that are rewarding. It's small but rewarding. Especially when they have their own talent to share with (and be appreciated by) their new peers.

  • Barbara Cummings Well written, Kim. Said it well.
  • Jenny Headland Hoffman Is this a picture of somewhere at Faith?? I can't even imagine where or what this could be. Has it changed that much?
  • Maddy Hardeman I love having the courtyard and the lobby so people can hang around and socialize during intermission and afterwards. (And Tyler was awesome.)
  • Alisa Snell Sprouffske Agree with Jenny...that doesn't look anything like the FA I remember.
  • Maddy Hardeman Jenny Headland Hoffman, only building you would know in this pic is the back of Boesel hall on the left - the old Dorm that was on the circle. Perspective is circle is behind the camera - old bus maintenance area to the right. there was a grassy area with a big mango tree where this courtyard is now. This is the newest area on campus. The new Cadd auditorium is now to the right and above this shot.
  • Jenny Headland Hoffman Thx Maddy. Wow, mixed emotions of happy and sadness.
  • Maddy Hardeman It IS nice not to have talent night, plays, science fair, fine arts festival and graduation in the gym any more. Many things other than buildings have changed, but there are some things that are much the same. Such a hard thing to describe what is different/same now in a new day and age of missions.
  • Roberta Jo Maxwell Talent Night memories are still fresh in my mind too, Kim! Our junior class show theme was a diner, and we laid black and white squares on the floor for tile. A lot of work! Can't believe we'll be there in July, and our kids will be experiencing it too! WOW!
  • Jennifer Prigodich Helwig We can't wait to get there!
  • KimberLee Voss Medlin There's a lot of us right there with you Jenny. I'm still getting used to the ongoing changes. The age of missions has definitely evolved as well....which leaves me with incredible appreciation for what it was a couple decades ago. It's another one of those things that's hard to describe in words.
  • Alan Miller Faith Academy is so different than the "good ole days" when you had to endure. Good thing that the spirit is still there.
  • Daniel Davidenas i know exactly what you mean kim. so much surprisingly the same... and yet many changes at the same time. kind of amazing how both are able to co-exist... so interestingly in the same place. time marches on...
  • Maddy Hardeman WIth everyone contributing to the idea, I think we are getting somewhere in understanding the changes.
