if you only knew the millions of things I want to say....but don't

Sunday

i love this city

We've been in the Philippines for well over a month. It's been fun. It's been a blast. Yes, it's been great. But now....goodness gracious… now we're definitely starting to miss a few things and a few people. If anybody knows of a good local Mexican restaurant [mom an pop-sy like]…oh, man…does anybody do it better than Arizona?! Biased-ly speaking, probably not. We know what we’re hittin’ the next time we’re in Prescott!! ^_^

Remember when I mentioned the volume of life on the city streets, shopping areas and the likes? I love it. I really do. I love the night life. It’s hard to put into words the pure joy of seeing and being in a city where there’s hundreds of thousands of people in the business of making a life for themselves. So many jeepneys transporting so many people, the guys hanging on the back of the jeepneys managing the customer flow, the cute motorbikes transporting the customers who’d rather pay less for transportation, the bikes transporting customers who want to pay an even lower price, the buses roaring down the streets and tootin’ the “there’s room for more!” alarm, all the wall-to-wall restaurants, the thousands of tiny hole-in-the-wall joints…so much to visually and audibly soak in. When that life is lit up at night it's a beautiful symphony to be in.There’s no such thing as lack of opportunity here...not for Filipinos. But sometimes I find myself missing a quiet place to enjoy coffee in town. A quiet place to enjoy a family night on the town. We look forward to driving out of town and to the beach, for a day or two, when things slow down enough for it.

One thing I had hoped for, and looked forward to, is our family being too busy to waste any time in front of the TV. Fortunately, that has definitely been the case. Cable is available, but we so don’t need it anyway. Yet, at the same time not having the choice to enjoy football games, missing out on the Olympics [to name a few] …it’s been “different” for lack of better words. All you fellow football fans…enjoy for us! Maybe we can find a way to enjoy the super bowl with you next year from this side of the Pacific. That’d be awesome!

!!!! TOBY MAC !!! …. One would think that after an afternoon [and evening] at the crowd packed Greenhills shopping center we'd be happy to be driving home with A/C and some quiet [with the windows shut] last night. But no. America, do you have any idea just how blessed you are that you have a radio buffet of contemporary Christian music to enjoy with your family? Toby's new album is worth the crank up. While we jived our bones to the car pounding beat of some of the most amazing lyrics, I was reminded of why we are here….and I couldn’t help but smile REAL BIG. There are still millions and millions of people in this country that do not have even one station putting out this kind of good stuff. Christians here are hungry for that one alternative...just one.

All that to say to our supporters....THANK-YOU. Thank-you again for being a part of why our family is here. Thank-you for sharing this good stuff with my people. You really are making a difference. On behalf of my people, as Toby's song goes "...where would I be without you?"

  • Theprincessclub Corp wow... one good example of seeing how God perceives... and true, I was just talking to the family while we are in the car going to church that we do not have even just 1 fm Christian Radio station in Manila. We badly need 1 here. Let's continue to pray for favor from DOTC and NTC that they'll approve 1 station for you guys. We claim a radio frequency for you guys in Jesus, name! so excited!
  • David Joannes seriously need to see you guys soon...
  • Mary Shepard Kim your writing is so inspires me to want to be where you are! Reading your words opens my eyes to how blessed you are to be doing just what the LORD has for you to do, and doing it with such a happy heart. We all here in the states need to do what the LORD has for us to do with the same awareness of all the opprotunity that is set before us, WITH THE COMFORT that we take for granted. I love the way you share and the passion you have in your sharing. Always look forward to you next installment to the adventure of following God's plan for you and your family. LOVE AND BLESSINGS. ps. next time in Prescott, I'll make you a Mexi feast!

  • Patricia Rumberger Dear Kim, When we first went to Asia, I thought I could not live without icecream because we heard you should not eat any there. After a while, I forgot about it. Then God put us in another city where they made the most delicious flavors and it was safe to eat. So we did enjoy it...
  • KimberLee Voss Medlin Looking forward to it, Ryan !!! Aunt Pat, the ice cream tubs are so expensive. Either that or I'm pricing it with my Filipina mindset. I'd rather enjoy a P25 fudge sunday from Mcdonald's
