if you only knew the millions of things I want to say....but don't

Tuesday

Ruffled Cadi Feathers

The body is rested but the mind has been rattled. It wasn't even 8am when the rattling started.

Backing up.....
The Cadi was taken off road and off insurance due to some maintenance issues that needed to be addressed. Being the type to keep our heads out of the ground and aware of regulatory changes of all things important we were still unaware of having been penalized for not informing the DMV of made changes. However, through some [apparently] new tracking program the AZ DMV tracked our actions. Apparently a notice was sent to our auto insurer of their awareness and penalty we were to take...which included the suspension of our plate. No letter or any method of notice was served [mailed or phoned] to us to take on any action to "report" our made changes accompanied with the implied threat of suspension. Not from the DMV or the auto insurance company. What would have been logical, informative and beneficial would have been something along the lines of "We have ' been informed' of your actions to remove insurance on such-and-such vehicle....etc...." No such thing.

Several months later, with the [still] current annual registration, the car was put back on insurance and we started using it again. Last night I was the lucky driver that cautiously drove down the road while watching the patrol car get on and stay on my tail. Sure enough his lights went off and I pulled over. After 20 minutes of waiting the ridiculous citation was served to me and I've been given a month to settle in court. How lovely is that? Not so.

This morning, Mike finds out on the phone all those details of the penalties and suspension....and how now the DMV will be adding on yet another penalty for us having put the Cadi back on insurance...and another when YET to "re-register" it with the DMV on top of the [still] good annual registration.

This "tracking" program is apparently fairly new because this was never an issue in recent years. So, 2009 had to be when it was instated. Now our auto policy premiums are jacked up for 3 years. And in my humanness there is one word I can't seem to erase from my mind: SCREWED. I am always amazed at the grossly stealthy actions made through regulatory changes. Even more so when consequential results are being....welp, screwed.

  1. Does the dmv have a contract with the insurance agency's to report this stuff? If you have to keep insurance on a vehicle you aren't sure you are going to get fixed and isn't drivable, why should the state care? It seems to me that if you can prove to the state that it was not drivable at the time you took it off of insurance that they should not charge you the fines. Why did your insurance go up for 3 years---because of the ticket from the dmv? They both want your money! or is it a conspiracy? Just kidding=) Wish you good luck straightening it all out.
